DCLM Radio

Read this first...

Working closely with the project manager and the developers, I revamped the DCLM Radio project, enhancing both the mobile app and web versions for the global community of Deeper Life Bible Church. With a presence in 60+ countries, the project caters to thousands of online users engaging in live services. The app and website primarily focus on livestreaming and providing access to archived media, including sermons and choir songs. Key features include livestreaming of services/sermons and seamless retrieval of past playlists, albums, sermons, songs, and Bible readings.

As the sole designer on the project, My job was to revamp the app and website to introduce a new library feature, allowing users to easily search and access past media files. The challenge was to enhance the platforms, originally designed for livestreaming, into beloved products that blessed thousand of users everyday. Considering the app's 100k+ downloads and the website's 7k visitors per service, my design aimed for a seamless transition, subtly incorporating new features while maintaining familiarity. The goal was to appeal to both digitally-inclined and less tech-savvy users, creating an inclusive and user-friendly experience that resonates with thousands of users.

The Journey

Equipped with thorough research insights and regular communication with the project manager, I embarked on designing the project. Starting with the mobile app before proceeding to the web version ensured a rapid implementation and maintained a consistent aesthetic across both versions. To enhance speed and design uniformity with the development team, I meticulously crafted and tested concise and reusable Figma styles for grids, typography, and color.

This approach significantly influenced the project's design cohesiveness and prompt implemetation. Additionally, I structured the Figma pages and  effectively organzed the components, assets, and screens, complemented by prototype videos shared with the developers for a comprehensive understanding of project flows.

The Destination...

The outcome was greatly impressive, especially the consistency across different devices or platforms. The fusion of aesthetic appeal with functional interfaces received high praise from the project manager, recognized as top-notch. Developers commended the organization of the design as being helpful during implementation. The user-focused design facilitated concentration during livestreaming while subtly introducing new features to users without distracting them.

Finally...

The first version of the app has been released but it was not implemented to match the design at all. The product manager is working on making the other versions far better and more developers are being onboarded to achieve this as well... Notwithstanding, the released version still caters to some of th most pressing needs of the users.
